Our History
Ethiopia
The Beginning

Don Bosco Solar’s journey began in Ethiopia in 2014 with a vision to address the growing demand for skilled renewable energy professionals. Recognizing the increasing need for reliable and sustainable energy solutions, the Salesians of Don Bosco established a practical Solar PV training program to equip young people and technical professionals with industry-relevant skills.
The Ethiopian training centre quickly earned a reputation for delivering competency-based education that combined classroom instruction with extensive practical experience. Students received hands-on training in Solar PV system design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, preparing them to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.
The success of the Ethiopian initiative became the foundation for expanding Don Bosco Solar’s training model across Africa. Its commitment to quality education, technical excellence, and youth empowerment inspired the establishment of similar training centres in other countries, extending the impact of renewable energy education throughout the region.
Historic Centres
Building on the success achieved in Ethiopia, Don Bosco Solar expanded its operations to Don Bosco Technical Institute, Ashaiman, Ghana under the leadership of Bro. Christof Baum, SDB. The centre was established to meet the increasing demand for qualified Solar PV technicians and renewable energy professionals in Ghana and the West African sub-region.
Since its establishment, the Ghana centre has developed into one of the region’s leading Solar PV training institutions. Through competency-based education, students gain practical experience in solar system design, installation, battery storage, mini-grid technologies, water pumping systems, and renewable energy applications using modern equipment and real-life installations.
