Course Overview

The Basic Solar PV module introduces learners to the fundamental principles, components, installation, operation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic systems. It is designed for beginners who want to develop basic knowledge and practical skills in solar energy technology.

The module covers the basics of solar energy and photovoltaic technology, including how solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy. Learners are introduced to basic electrical concepts such as voltage, current, power, energy and DC/AC electricity. The course also focuses on the identification and functions of major solar PV components, including solar panels, batteries, charge controllers, inverters, cables, connectors and protection devices.

A strong emphasis is placed on practical training. Learners are taught how to assess basic electrical loads, select suitable components, connect PV modules, install and wire a small solar system, and carry out basic testing and commissioning. The module also introduces routine maintenance, troubleshooting and safe working practices, including electrical and battery safety.

Applicants  should meet the following requirements:

Age: 18–25 years

Educational Background: Basic knowledge or experience in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a related electrical field.

Entrance Exams: Applicant who passes the both entrance and interview.

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants are awarded an AHK Certificate, an internationally recognized qualification that demonstrates competence in Solar PV installation and renewable energy technologies. This certification enhances graduates’ professional credibility and provides a competitive advantage for employment opportunities both within Ghana and internationally.
