PV Installation at the Salesians of Don Bosco Delegation House

Iju, Lagos, Nigeria

In March 2019, the Don Bosco Solar Installation Team successfully designed and installed a photovoltaic (PV) system at the Salesians of Don Bosco Delegation House in Iju, Lagos, Nigeria. The installation was carried out to improve energy reliability, reduce dependence on the national electricity grid, and provide a clean and sustainable source of power for the Delegation House.

The project supplies electricity for lighting, office equipment, and other essential electrical loads, ensuring uninterrupted daily operations while reducing energy costs and the institution’s environmental footprint.

Project Overview

The Delegation House serves as the administrative headquarters and residence of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Nigeria. Frequent power interruptions from the national grid created operational challenges and increased the dependence on diesel generators.

To address these challenges, Don Bosco Solar implemented a hybrid solar PV system on the first and third floors of the building. The installation provides reliable electricity for administrative offices, residential facilities, and other essential services while significantly reducing grid dependence and fuel consumption.

Key Features

The system utilizes high-efficiency solar modules, Victron MPPT charge controllers, and Victron MultiPlus inverter/chargers to ensure maximum energy production and efficient power management. Excess solar energy is stored in Trojan battery banks, providing reliable electricity during the night and periods of low solar generation.

The hybrid configuration enables seamless switching between solar energy, battery storage, and grid power, ensuring continuous electricity supply while reducing operational costs and carbon emissions.

Project Impact

The successful implementation of this project has significantly improved the energy resilience of the Delegation House. Staff and residents now benefit from a dependable and environmentally friendly power supply that supports daily administrative activities and community life. The installation also demonstrates Don Bosco’s commitment to promoting renewable energy technologies across its institutions in Africa.

PV Installation at Don Bosco Onitsha

Onitsha, Nigeria

In August 2021, the Don Bosco Solar Installation Team completed the installation of a 91.4 kWp photovoltaic (PV) system at Don Bosco Onitsha, Nigeria. The project was undertaken to provide a reliable and sustainable energy solution that supports the institution’s educational, vocational, and community development activities.

By harnessing clean solar energy, the system reduces dependence on Nigeria’s unreliable electricity grid while ensuring continuous power for classrooms, workshops, offices, lighting, and other critical facilities.

Project Overview

Don Bosco Onitsha is an important Salesian institution dedicated to education, vocational skills development, and youth empowerment. Prior to the installation, the centre experienced frequent power outages that disrupted teaching, training, and administrative operations.

To improve energy security, Don Bosco Solar designed and installed a 91.4 kWp hybrid photovoltaic system equipped with advanced battery storage and intelligent energy management technologies. The system delivers reliable electricity throughout the day and provides backup power during grid failures.
